SRINAGAR: Four militants who, according to the police, were part of a combined group of Hizb-ul-Mujahideen (HM) and Lashkar-e-Tayyaba (LeT) were killed and three Army jawans and a policeman wounded in a gunfight in Jammu and Kashmir’s southern Pul-wama district on Monday.

The officials said that the fighting broke out during a cordon-and-search operation launch-ed jointly by the Army, J&K police’s counterinsurgency Special Operat-ions Group (SOG) and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) in Pulwa-ma’s Lassipora village earlier during the day.

The operation, the officials added, was launched on a “credible input” about the presence of militants in the village.

“During searches, terrorists fired upon the search party. The fire was retaliated leading to an encounter,” a statement issued by the police here said.

“It was a combined group of proscribed terror outfits HM and LeT. They were wanted by law for their complicity in a series of terror crimes including attacks on security establishments and civilian atrocities,” the statement issued by the police said.
