Hyderabad: Cops save 5 from fire

The police said that the labourers in the huts were sleeping when the mishap took place and they were immediately evacuated.

Hyderabad: A family of five persons was rescued by the Rachakonda police during a fire mishap at VM Grounds in Chaitanyapuri during the wee hours of Tuesday. The police said that the labourers in the huts were sleeping when the mishap took place and they were immediately evacuated.

During the wee hours of Tuesday, the traffic police of Rachakonda commissionerate were conducting checks against drunk driving at Chaitanyapuri. The police personnel noticed thick smoke from beside the rocks near the VM Grounds. When they rushed to the spot and noticed the blaze coming from the dump of crates used to store the fruits, they also found that some labourers were sleeping in the huts nearby.

The police immediately rushed to the huts and woke up the labourers and evacuated them before the fire spread to the huts. The fire brigade were called to put out the blaze.

LB Nagar inspector A Nagamallu said “About four families were living in the huts erected beside the wall of the ground. They were all sleeping and did not know about the fire. The huts were located very close to the spot where the fire originated. A few of our team members tried to control the blaze from spreading, while others evacuated the families. Later, fire fighters were pressed into action to douse the fires.”
