Hyderabad: The Telangana High Court on Wednesday gave its green signal to enhance the movie ticket rates for upcoming releases of RRR, Bheema Nayak, Pushpa, Akhanda and Radheshyam movies. The court order will be applicable to theaters that had made applications for a rate-hike to the police and the state government.

Justice Vijaysen Reddy was dealing with a batch of petitions filed by proprietors of cinema theaters, who pleaded for necessary directions to officials to resolve their plea for ticket rate hike. They said their applications were not attended to by officials for quite some time.

They have pleaded that all the categories (classes) of ticket prices must be increased by at least 50 per cent of the present rates.

On behalf of the petitioners, counsel Durga Prasad argued that due to the non–implementation of GO75 issued in 2017, the theater owners could not enhance the ticket prices while there was high cost escalation.

GL Narasimha Rao, counsel for cinema-goers association, argued that he had filed an implead- petition on behalf of the audience and requested the court to  admit his petition before the orders were passed.

The court made it clear that the implead-petition may be heard later and directed the police and state government to allow the theaters to hike the rates for the new movie shows.
