2.50 lakh voters enrolled for Kakinada Municipal Corporation elections
Officials said the list of voters will be made public soon.
Kakinada: The electoral list for the forthcoming elections to the Kakinada Municipal Corporation has been prepared. Nearly 2.50 lakh voters have enrolled themselves by September 20, the cut-off date for enrollment.
The electoral rolls upto are ready, with the tahsildars working full time on keeping the list updated each month. According to official sources, the entire voter electoral rolls will be completed by October 10.
The KMC officials will then collect the electoral lists from the tahsildars. Kakinada has 50 divisions, including merged villages, such as Swamy Nagar, S. Achutapuram and Teachers’ Colony out of which eight come under the Kakinada Rural Mandal and remaining under the urban mandal.
According to the census, Kakinada’s population is 3,84,062 out of which 1,58,409 are males and 1,95,635 are females. Kakinada Urban voters are 2,04,489 in number out of which 1,00,194 males and 1,04,218 are female voters.
In Kakinada Rural Mandal, there are nearly 50,000 voters. According to census reports, there are 1,01,855 households in Kakinada city, including merged villages.
Election officials instructed the KMC to collect the electoral rolls from the tahsildars concerned and finalise the voter lists. KMC officials will divide the list of voters division-wise, including door numbers, and publish it in the final divisional-level voter lists which will be made public as it can used as reference for the people.
KMC officials said that the final list of voters could be prepared by the end of October and lists would be submitted to the government in November.
KMC commissioner Mr S.Govinda Swamy told this newspaper that the process for elections was going on as per instructions of the state government and all the employees are working at full capacity.
However, according to KMC official sources, the division of voters may start only after October 15 as the personnel concerned with the particular department will be busy with the distribution of pensions from October 1 to 6, after which the offices would have to be given holidays for the Dasara puja celebrations.
