Hyderabad: Pot-holes plagued roads get worse with stagnated water
Motorists were scared of commuting close to the barricades put up by Metro Rail authorities fearing the road may cave in.
Hyderabad: Rain water stagnated on the city’s main roads for four to five hours bringing vehicular traffic to a halt on Wednesday. Pot holes on the roads only added to the woes of motorists.
Motorists were scared of commuting close to the barricades put up by Metro Rail authorities fearing the road may cave in. With rain water entering the engine and carburetor, a large number of vehicles stopped in the middle of the road, causing traffic jams.
“The situation is worst between Chaderghat-Malakpet and Vanasthalipuram. Rain water is up to waist level on the road near Malakpet rail-bridge. My car is under the water. A few locals helped me to move it to the road side,” said Suneel Sharma from a coaching institute in Vanasthalipuram.
The situation was not different at Jubilee Hills check post, Sarathi Studios-Maithrivanam junction, Punjagutta Model House point, 6 number cross roads at Bagh Amberpet, Aladdin buildings-IBP petrol bunk point on Sardar Patel Road, Madhapur junction, Toli Chowki junction, Hyderabad Public School-Begumpet flyover point to name a few. Almost all main roads were filled up with knee-deep rain water.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic), A V Ranganath requested commuters to postpone non-essential travel. “Who will compensate the loss to me? I could reach my shop in Begum Bazaar only after 12 noon. Almost the entire market which does business worth crores of rupees during morning hours, was delayed.” asked Rajender Gupta, a businessman.
Former Director General of Engineering Staff College of India, Dr Nagabhushan Rao said that the loss due to extra burning of petrol, damage to the vehicles and work and business hours lost in traffic jams could run into several crores of rupees.
