Ayurveda college students protest over shifting of college.

A girl student cries for help as policemen allegedly grab and molest her during the protest in Hyderabad on Wednesday.

Hyderabad: Students of Unani and Ayurveda are confronting each other over the issue of shifting of the Ayurvedic College to the premises of the Nizamia (Unani) Tibbi College. Students of DR. BRKR Government Ayurvedic College on Thursday protested against the shifting of their college to Erragadda and tried to manhandle the Director of AYUSH Dr. V.S. Alagu Varsini.

Ayurveda students gheraoed the Dr. Varsini when she arrived to interact with officials of the Unani and Ayurvedic units. They raised slogans against the Director and tried to push her and pulled her saree. She got a minor injury on her forearm, however, police personnel rescued her and shifted her safely.

When girl students of the Ayurveda College gheraoed the Dr Varsini, and did not allow her to leave the place, police personnel intervened and tried to provide cover. Male constables also mingled with the protesting girl students and started pushing them.

The protesting students were manhandled by cops who touched their shoulders and one male constable even pinched a girl student in the stomach.

In fact a huge controversy has ensued over the police constable's conduct while whisking away female medicos of the Ayurvedic College. A video of the distasteful behaviour by a male constable, pinching and stamping female medicos discreetly is going viral. DCP South Zone Mr. Amber Kishore Jha said, "We are investigating the allegations of the misbehaviour of a constable. We are examining the video and will take appropriate action if he is found guilty." He said that the actions of the constable would be studied to see if in handling doctors at a protest was intentional or unintentional.

Director Dr Varsini had issued the memo on July 19 for shifting of paraphernalia and the staff of B.R.K.R. Government. Ayurvedic College to the existing hospital premises at B.R.K.R. Govt. Ayurvedic College, Erra-gadda Hospital, Hyderabad from Nizamia Tibbi College for taking up renewal-/repair works.
