Vijayapura cops ban AIMIM leader Asaduddin Owaisi's meeting

Hyderabad: The Vijayapura (erstwhile Bijapur) police of Karnataka state on Monday served a notice on MIM president Asaduddin Owaisi, prohibiting his entry into the city. The MIM chief had planned to address a public meeting in Vijayapura on June 1.

Mr Owaisi personally received the notice from a police officer who visited Darussalam, the party headquarters, in Hyderabad on Tuesday.

As per the notice, the MIM president has been banned from entering or participating in any public meeting in the city for seven days from June 1, 2016.

Responding to the notice, Mr Owaisi said “I will abide by the order, though the contents of the notice that my visit will create law and order problems are completely baseless.” He said that the ban was an attempt to stop the MIM from strengthening its base in in Vijayapura.
