Bengaluru: Two girls share top SSLC honours, score perfect 10

Hassan district has improved its position from seventh last year to first, while last year’s top district Udupi came fifth this year.

Bengaluru: Like previous years this year too girl students outsmarted boys in SSLC examination, with two girls, one from Bengaluru rural and another from Uttara Kannada, sharing first rank by scoring cent per cent 625 marks.

D. Srujana from St. Philomena’s school in Attibele, Bengaluru Rural district and Naganjali Parameshwar Naik of Colaba Vithob Shanbhag Kalbagkar (CVSK) High School in Kumta shared the top honours.

The overall pass percentage this year was 73.70 per cent, up from last year by 1.77 percentage points. Students from rural areas outshined their urban counterparts with a pass percentage of 76.67 per cent.

Addressing a press conference Higher Education Department Principal Secretary Umashankar said that a total of 8,25,468 students had appeared for the examination, out of which 6,08,336 have cleared the examination.

District-wise Hassan tops the pass percentage table with 84.68 per cent, while Yadgir is at the bottom of the table. Last year too Yadgir had earned this dubious distinction.

Bengaluru Rural improved its tally from 14th position to third. It may be noted that Bengaluru North is in 26th place while Bengaluru South is at 32.

SSLC examination was held from March 21 to April 4 and answer scripts were valuated between April 10 and 25. Interestingly, none of the government schools have obtained zero pass percentage, while nine aided and 37 unaided schools have zero percentage pass record.
