Hyderabad: ASI dies after allegedly falling from staircase

The deceased identified as S. Hanumantha Rayappa received a severe head injury and died on the spot as reported by the police.

Hyderabad: An assistant sub inspector working at the Chaderghat police station died after falling from the staircase at his residence on Monday.  The deceased identified as S. Hanumantha Rayappa received a severe head injury and died on the spot as reported by the police.

He was due to retire in June. He already had a paralytic stroke and a brain stroke, due to which he had developed health complications said the family members. According to the police, Rayappa, 57, hailing from Anantapur district, was working as an ASI and was residing at Venkatred Nagargar in Ramanthapur under Uppal police station limits, along with his wife Alivelamma and two daughters, S. Padmavathi and S. Kalpana. 

Their elder son Bhasker lives is abroad for higher studies. On Sunday, he attended duty and came home by evening. After supper, he and his wife slept in one room, while both daughters slept in another. Around 3.30 in the morning, he woke up suddenly and complained of uneasiness but became normal after a while. 

Later when Alivelamma woke up she found him sleeping. After a while when she woke up again, she did not find him in the room. She went out searching for him and later woke her daughters up. They later found him lying in a pool of blood on the road. She told the cops that he had a habit of going down to relieve himself from uneasiness and could have fallen from the stairs while walking down. SI P. Anjaneyulu from Uppal police station, said he could have accidentally fallen from the staircase.

‘Sincere’ Rayappa was normal till his last breath

S. Hanumantha Rayappa who was working as a head constable with the Hyderabad traffic police was promoted to ASI in June 2017. His colleagues at Amberpet remembered him as a sincere officer. Rayappa was earlier working with Punjagutta traffic police station as a head constable. In June 2017, he was promoted to ASI and posted to Chaderghat police station.

A few days after reporting to Chaderghat, he was deputed to Amberpet police station. A few months ago, he developed health complications and became very weak. However, after recovery, he resumed to work and continued duty till Sunday. On Sunday which unfortunately became the last day of his service also, he was very normal they said.
