BBMP laxity drains motorists

Bengaluru: With the city’s infrastructure miserably failing to keep pace with growing population, it is taking a toll on traffic flow, motorists and pedestrians. BBMP had taken up construction of a drain at Tilak Nagar off Bannerghatta Road a couple of months ago, after the BMRCL has expedited its work.

However, as the work has been moving at a very slow pace, the construction debris and materials required to build the drain continue to remain on the road.

“Bannerghatta Road is important due to the connectivity it provides to the Dairy Circle, Koramangala and Tilak Nagar, resulting in heavy traffic jam during the peak hours. If construction materials are not removed then it not only hinders vehicular movement, but raises accident risks. There is every possibility of two wheelers falling on to the iron bars poking out of incomplete drain,” said Shyam Prasada, a commuter.

The drains are covered with the trees that were axed after the metro construction was initiated. The commuters said that one couldn’t make out whether the drain is open or closed.

“At some intervals it is closed and at some it is open,” Prasada added. The traffic congestion in this area is huge and after the barricading of the area where metro construction is on, the motorists have to make do with the little space available.

“We have no issues with the metro construction. We stand to benefit in future, but why the Palike doesn’t complete its work soon. Their laxity is adding to our woes,” said Narayan Swamy, a local resident.
