Noida Police Book Two Social Media Handles Over Alleged 'Misleading Videos'
According to the FIR, the alleged offence came to light on Thursday through posts shared by the two accounts
Noida: Noida Police has registered an FIR against an Instagram account and an X handle for allegedly circulating "misleading videos" to create panic among the public and disturb law and order, officials said on Friday. The FIR was lodged at the Cyber Police Station against the Instagram account 'charchajunctionnews' and the X handle 'Truth @TruthfulCriticI' under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), relating to statements conducive to public mischief, and Section 66D of the Information Technology Act.
According to the FIR, the alleged offence came to light on Thursday through posts shared by the two accounts.
Police said the Instagram account uploaded a video claiming to show Noida Police personnel behaving "rudely and harshly" with members of the public.
Another video posted by the X handle alleged that "UP Police in Noida" was beating young women who were standing peacefully and tagged several public figures and international media organisations, the FIR stated.
The Cyber Police alleged that both videos were shared misleadingly and were "completely false and deceptive".
"The videos have created an atmosphere of mistrust among the public in Noida and adjoining areas, adversely affecting law and order," the FIR said.
It alleged that the posts were intended to incite fear, outrage and distrust against the state administration and provoke people to resort to violence, create disturbances or take the law into their own hands, thereby disrupting public peace.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Cyber) Shavya Goyal said an FIR had been registered against the two social media accounts for allegedly creating panic by sharing fake and misleading videos on social media.
Further investigation is underway, police said.
