NIA Intensifies Crackdown on Alleged Cross‑Border LeT Conspiracy in J&K

SRINAGAR: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has intensified its probe into an alleged cross‑border terror conspiracy, conducting coordinated searches across ten locations in Jammu and Kashmir.

The operation—spanning Kupwara, Kulgam, Bandipora, Baramulla and Sopore—forms part of a wider investigation into suspected logistical and communication networks supporting infiltrated militants allegedly directed by Pakistan‑based handlers of the banned Lashkar‑e‑Taiba (LeT).

Investigators focused on individuals believed to be part of an Over Ground Worker (OGW) network accused of facilitating movement, shelter, concealment and supply chains for infiltrated operatives. According to the NIA, Saturday’s searches were aimed at securing documentary, digital and material evidence to establish the roles of each suspected facilitator and to map the full extent of the alleged support infrastructure.

The case originated from FIR No. 0024/2026 registered at Police Station Zakoora in Srinagar and was subsequently taken over by the NIA as RC‑02/2026/NIA/JMU under Section 23 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, Sections 7 and 25 of the Arms Act, and Section 4 of the Explosive Substances Act. The investigation began after the arrest of an alleged LeT‑linked OGW during a late‑night naka checking operation on March 31, during which a hand grenade and live ammunition were recovered. This arrest reportedly opened a trail that led to the apprehension of Pakistani nationals and the identification of a local support network suspected of aiding infiltrated terrorists.

So far, the probe has revealed alleged linkages between Pakistan‑based LeT handlers and local associates who were purportedly involved in communication support, transportation, reconnaissance, sheltering and concealment of operatives. Investigators are also examining suspected financial trails, communication channels, movements of accused individuals and the supply chain of arms and explosives to determine the breadth of the conspiracy.

During Saturday’s searches, the NIA recovered incriminating material believed to be relevant to the case. Officials stated that the seized items are being examined and corroborated with previously collected evidence. The agency emphasised that the investigation remains ongoing, with efforts focused on identifying all individuals allegedly associated with the conspiracy and establishing their respective roles. Further arrests and recoveries may follow as the probe progresses, the NIA said.
