NIA Court Extends Shabir Shah’s Remand by 10 Days in 1996 Terror Case
Shah was produced before the court in Jammu upon the completion of his previous 10‑day remand
SRINAGAR: A special NIA court on Monday extended the remand of separatist leader Shabir Ahmad Shah by another 10 days in connection with a nearly three‑decade‑old terror case, officials said.
Shah was produced before the court in Jammu upon the completion of his previous 10‑day remand. He has filed a bail application, which is expected to be taken up on the next date of hearing, they added.
During the proceedings, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) sought further custody of Shah for additional questioning. After considering the submissions, the court granted the agency 10 more days of remand.
Shah was arrested by the NIA’s Srinagar unit on April 17 in Delhi in relation to a 1996 case involving a terrorist attack on policemen during a militant’s funeral. Following his arrest, the Patiala House Court approved his transit remand, after which he was brought before the NIA court in J&K’s winter capital Jammu the next day.
The separatist leader had recently been released on bail after spending nearly seven years in Delhi's Tihar Jail in a money laundering and terror funding case.
