MP Sarpanch Authorizes Another Person To Run Panchayat For Money, Dismissed

BHOPAL: A sarpanch of a gram panchayat in Madhya Pradesh’s Guna district was removed from her post for authorizing another person to run the panchayat for money, police said on Wednesday.
Laxmi Bai, sarpanch of Karod gram panchayat, struck a deal with one Ranveer Singh Kushwaha, a member of the panchayat, to repay her debt of Rs 20 lakh and pay her five percent commission in every work of the panchayat for which the contract will be awarded to him in lieu of transferring her power to him, police said.
An agreement to the effect was signed on a Rs 100 stamp paper on November 28, 2022.
The local administration initiated an inquiry after the matter came to light and later ordered her dismissal from her post, official sources said.
A case was also registered against Kushwaha under section 318 (cheating) of BNS and Prevention of Corruption Act in connection with the incident, Guna Cantt police station in-charge Anup Bhargav said
