Minor Girl Allegedly Abused By Relative Grandfather In Odisha

Bhubaneswar : In a shocking turn of events, a seven-year-old girl who had gone to her maternal home for a homely visit on summer vacation was allegedly 'sexually assaulted' by a relative grandfather. The bone-chilling incident was reported from Sambalpur’s Bamra in Odisha on Saturday.

According to reports, the little girl was alone at home when the accused elderly man called her and took her to a mango orchard where he committed the heinous crime. When the matter came to the fore, the family members immediately approached the Govindpur police station and reported the crime.

Swinging into action, police immediately rushed to the village and arrested the accused following the complaint and produced him before the court. Medical examination and legal procedures are underway as investigators gather evidence and statements

Local officials urged calm while promising a thorough probe and support for the child.

In a similar turn of events in October 2024, a man allegedly raped his minor niece at a place under Raghunathpali police limits in Rourkela. The matter came to the fore after the family members of the victim lodged a complaint against the accused, who is a distant relative of the victim, at the police station. 

According to sources, the accused fled the city after committing the crime and is still absconding.

Community members and child-welfare groups are calling for counseling and protection for the victim and stricter measures to prevent such crimes.
