Kochi: An unidentified man in his thirties was caught in the CCTV cameras making an unsuccessful bid to loot cash from an ATM at Vengola near Perumbavoor in the wee hours of Tuesday.  He is seen fleeing from the counter  when the alarm went off. The man, his face covered by a sack, entered the ATM counter of the South Indian Bank at Vengola Canal Bund Road at 3.05 am. He then smashed open the front portion of the teller machine with an iron rod, a police official said. However, an alarm attached with the ATM machine suddenly went off and an alert message was also sent to the central security system at the regional head office. The bank authorities immediately verified the security breach and informed the Perumbavoor police.

“The burglar could not break open the machine as the alarm went off as he removed its front panel. We have got four fingerprints of the man who made the attempt. The image of the man and the whole loot bid was captured by one of surveillance cameras”, said Perumbavoor circle inspector Baiju Paulose. Cops suspect the burglar to be a migrant labourer and a hunt has been launched. Earlier, forensic experts visited the ATM and collected evidence.
