Chennai: Lorry runs over man sleeping outside house

Chennai: A 57-year-old man who was sleeping outside his house in Valasaravakkam was killed after a tipper lorry ran over him on Tuesday night.

The deceased Shanmugam (57) was a sand loadman and was sleeping outside his house in SVS Nagar owing to a power cut in the locality. At the late hours, a tipper lorry that unloaded sand nearby had run over him while taking a reverse to turn the vehicle.Shanmugam was crushed under wheels and died on the spot.
On information, Valasaravakkam police rushed to the spot and retrieved the body.

The body was sent for post-mortem and the lorry was seized. The police have registered a case and a hunt has been launched for the truck driver, who fled the scene after the incident.
