Kottayam: A youth was murdered by his friend over the former’s love affair with a college girl  at Myladikara, near Pallikathode, 20 km from here on  January 26. The accused, Jijo George, 26, of Pallikathodu Myladikara Nanthiyattu,  pushed his friend  Abhijith, 25, of Kanjiram, into a well near the former’s house, where he drowned. According to the police, Jijo George, a painter by profession, had opposed the love affair of  Abhijith, an employee of an interior design shop in Kottayam, with the girl.

The incident happened on the night of Thursday last when Abhijith came to participate in the festival of  St Simon’s CMS Anglican Church, Myladikara, along with his parents, George and  Ponnamma. However, he went with his friend to his house to consume  liquor. “At that time, Abhijit received a call from  his  lover which  provoked Jijo.  While they were returning to the church around 11 p.m., Jijo  pushed Abhijith into the well,”  said Mr T.T. Subramaniyan, Ponkunnam CI.

Both were working in  the youth wing of the CMS church. The parents of Abhijith filed a man-missing complaint with  the police who questioned Jijo who was last seen with Abhijith.  The police registered a case after he confessed to the crime.    The Kanjirapally JFMC on Monday remanded him in  judicial custody till February 10.
