Coimbatore: Realtor kidnapped, cops launch hunt for abductors

Coimbatore: A special police team arrested one of the four of a gang who allegedly kidnapped a realtor and his friend near Tirupur here, demanding a ransom of Rs 1 crore.

According to police, Nanda Gopal, 66, realtor a resident of Varadha Rajapuram MK Thottam in Coimbatore befriended Dennis a resident of Coimbatore who is also a realtor. Recently Dennis had suggested investing money in a private chit fund company near Peelamedu, promising double interest returns.

Nanda Gopal agreed and suggested this to his friend Ramamoorthy too. Three of them started in Nanda Gopal's car on November 26th.

On the way Dennis told Nanda Gopal that some friends from Tirupur were also keen in joining the chit fund scheme and drove towards Tirupur to meet them.

Dennis took them to a house near Kaniyanpoondi on the outskirts of Tirupur and allegedly kept them hostage there with the help of his three friends Selva, Ragu and Karthi who were waiting there.

The gang initially took Rs 10,000 from Nanda Gopal and demanded Rs 1 crore to release them. They also threatened to kill Nanda Gopal and Ramamoorthy.

Anapparpalayam police on a tip-off, rushed to the spot and rescued the duo. They also arrested one among the offenders identified as Ragu. The other three escaped. Two special teams have been formed to nab them.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the same gang, posing as income tax officials, is suspected to be involved in robbing several persons.
