Nellai police foil suicide bid by TNSTC staffer

According to the police, the TNSTC driver attempted to commit suicide to express his protest against the TNSTC.

Tirunelveli: A self-immolation bid by a state-owned TNSTC (Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation) driver was thwarted by the police inside the district collectorate premises in Tirunelveli on Saturday.

Baskaran (54), a TNSTC driver, came running into the district collector’s office premises at around 11.30 a.m doused himself with petrol and attempted to commit self-immolation. Fortunately, the policemen present at the spot thwarted his suicide bid and took him away to the Palayamkottai police station for enquiry. 

According to the police, the TNSTC driver attempted to commit suicide to express his protest against the TNSTC Vanarpetai depot manager, who allegedly did not assign him duty regularly as he is a supporter of the sidelined AIADMK leader, T.T.V. Dhinakaran.
