Anantapur: Police are keeping a vigil on faction violence-prone villages to avoid possible post-poll violence by rival groups in the district. SP Fakeerrappa has initiated several steps to weed out faction rivalry in various regions.

The SP inspected the faction-hit mandals Yellanur and Putlur on Tuesday and held review meetings at police stations after verifying the records of group rivalry and the whereabouts of the leaders involved in such activities at village and mandal levels.

Fakkeerrappa told the media at Yellanur that the local body polls went off peacefully as all police stations were on the alert against possible violence. “We are keeping a vigil on faction-hit areas though the situation is under control across the district,” the SP said.

He said police stations should be alert and shouldn’t allow even minor incidents. Police stations are closely watching the faction leaders across mandals.

Meanwhile, all the gram panchayats have been asked to set up CC cameras in their respective villages to control criminal activities.

The SP said more than 8.5 lakh women, students and employees downloaded the Disha App across the district.
