Hyderabad: A man stabbed his wife to death in full public view near the sub registrar office in Suryapet district on Wednesday.

The suspect, D. Srinivas, followed his wife, who was living separately, slit her throat and stabbed her several times. The suspect also cut off her hands before fleeing the spot.

Police said that Srinivas had planned the murder as he suspected his wife’s fidelity. The victim, Shaik Sabeena Begum, died on the spot before getting any medical help.

Police said the incident occurred in Suryapet on Wednesday morning. “The victim was passing by in an autorickshaw near the sub registrar office. Srinivas, who had a knife, stopped the autorickshaw, pulled out the victim and stabbed her. He slit her throat, and as she was struggling he cut her wrist off using a butcher’s knife,” said a police official describing the murder.

Although several people were present nobody came to the rescue of the victim. Srinivas kept on yelling at eyewitnesses not to come near him and swung his knife in the air. Though Srinivas fled from the scene cops took him into custody.

Police said that Srinivas, an autorickshaw driver who was married to another women, had fallen in love with Sabina, a divorcee a year ago. He married Sabina without divorcing his wife. He lived with her for around six months and then started suspecting her fidelity.

Sabina left house and started living separately due to domestic harassment. Since then Srinivas bore a grudge against her, police said.
