Hyderabad: Twenty contract nurses working at the Gandhi Hospital staged a day-long protest from the hospital’s terrace on Saturday — threatening to jump off if their regularisation was not carried out by the health department. The police took them into preventive custody late by the evening. There are 220 contract nurses at Gandhi Hospital and they have been demanding regularisation — a measure they claim was promised to them by officials.

Health minister Laxma Reddy had promised to look into demands and principal secretary Rajeshwar Tiwari had said that while appointing nurses, experience will count. But the GO for nurses’ appointment has not given points for experience, and fresh graduates are being hired.
