Rape cases increase in Hyderabad
Cases of rape were put at 277 in 2019 and 329 in 2020, whereas it stands at 377 this year
Hyderabad: Crimes against women saw a rise in Rachakonda limits this year with a total of 2,446 cases as against 2,040 registered last year and 1,828 in 2019. Official data revealed that 90 per cent of the accused in rape cases this year were known to the victims.
Cases of rape were put at 277 in 2019 and 329 in 2020, whereas it stands at 377 this year. Of them, in around 368 cases, the victim knew the accused, who were either friends or neighbours or family members.
Cases pertaining to domestic violence and harassment have been rising regularly from 1,090 in 2019 and 1,181 cases last year, and 1,403 this year. Cases of molestation from 363 in 2019 and 393 in 2020 have risen to 496. Meanwhile, POCSO cases saw a marginal decline from last year’s 398 cases to 394.
