Hyderabad: In a perfectly planned and executed trap, the Banjara Hills police arrested a man who cheated foreign exchange dealers of $14,000.

The accused, Rahul Kiran Ghatia, 31, used select foreign exchange dealers from Just Dial, introduces himself as Nikhil Deepak Jain and told them that he was in urgent need of $7,500 for a sudden visit to the US.

He used to ask the agents to send the money to a house that he would rent for the purpose. When the agent reached there with the dollars, Rahul would collect the money, go inside purportedly to bring documents and escape. Police said he had cheated agents on November 26 and December 3. DCP, West, A.R. Srinivas said Rahul used to get separate SIM cards and cellphones for the con job. He used to cover his face with a mask citing skin infection to avoid being identified by the agent. After cheating the forex agent, he would dump the cellphone. Police alerted other foreign exchange dealers, and got an alert from one of them.

They laid a trap and nabbed Rahul near GVK Mall, Banjara Hills, and recovered Rs7.5 lakh.
