Rape Survivor Found Bleeding on Street in Ujjain

A 12-year-girl, said to be mentally challenged, was allegedly raped in Ujjain in Madhya Pradesh.

Bhopal: A 12-year-girl, said to be mentally challenged, was allegedly raped in Ujjain in Madhya Pradesh, police said on Wednesday.

The rape victim was rescued by some inmates of an ashram in Ujjain city after finding her in torn clothes and bleeding condition on Monday evening, bringing to light the shocking incident, police said.

Police investigation has however yet to ascertain when the incident took place and also the identity of the girl.

The victim was found running on a deserted road early on Monday in footage of CCTV, recovered by the police on Wednesday.

In the footage, the victim was seen knocking the doors of a house seeking help and when the house owner sought to know what happened to her, she told him that some people were chasing her, police said.

She was later seen in the CCTV footage running away from the place, police said.

Later, the inmates of the ashram rescued her and provided her clothes.

They later informed the police.

She was immediately admitted to the hospital in Indore, around 50 km from Ujjain, in a critical condition.

Doctors said she was now out of danger, police said on Wednesday.

Medical tests have confirmed rape, according to the police.

Ujjain district superintendent of police Sachin Sharma said that the victim was still not able to speak clearly about the incident. She was also not able to say from which place she hailed from and about her parents.

Mr Sharma on Wednesday said that an auto rickshaw driver was detained for questioning in connection with the incident and a case has been filed under relevant sections of Indian Penal Code and POCSO act against unidentified assailants.

Police has found some clues in connection with the incident.

He said that a special investigation team has been constituted to arrest the accused.
