Hyderabad: Rachakonda police on Tuesday arrested an eight member gang which had cheated a city realtor of Rs 60 lakh under the pretext of offering him gold at cheaper prices. Police recovered Rs 45.1 lakh cash and incriminating material from them. The accused showed the pictures of gold on a mobile phone and trapped him after gaining his confidence, said Rachakonda commissioner Mahesh Bhagwat.

The kingpin Gajjela Mahesh, a real estate agent, and the victim, Thalluri Venkateshwar Rao, came into contact a few months back. A few days ago, Mahesh informed Rao that he knew people selling gold cheap. As per the plan, two persons came to Rao’s house and collected money from him. They put the money in a specially designed suitcase. Later, after engaging Rao in a conversation, they returned the money and left saying that they would come back with the gold. When they did not return, Rao checked the money and found they were bundles of colour paper.
