Hyderabad: On one hand people are upset with police checks and harassment under the garb of the model code of conduct ahead of the assembly elections, two persons claiming to be cops on election duty looted Rs 18.50 lakh in cash from the employees of a textile firm at Panjagutta on Thursday night.
According to Panjagutta police, employees of Chimanlal Suresh Kumar Textiles Pvt.Ltd at Mehidipatnamin the city, started in their car with Rs 20 lakh cash and were proceeding towards Begum Bazar to deposit in the bank.
Around 9.15 pm, when they were passing through Banjara Hills, two unidentified persons on a bike intercepted their car. At they stopped the vehicle, an Innova also arrived. People from the two vehicles dressed in Khaki and claiming to be cops posted on election duties, checked the car and picked up a bag containing Rs 20 lakh from the car.
They also asked the employees to produce documents for the Cash and then forced one of the employees to board their car.
Later they dropped him near Khairatabad Metro station, gave him his cash bag and sped away. The employee called for their car and went to his employer and handed over the cash bag, but was shocked to see only Rs 1.50 lakh cash was there in the bag and the remaining Rs 18.50 lakh were missing.
They immediately lodged a complaint at Panjagutta PS. Panjagutta Detective Inspector S Kranti Kumar said they are verifying CCTVs in the area for any clues on the suspects. All angles are being proved into, he said.
