Hyderabad: Man held for posing as top cop's friend

Hyderabad: A man was arrested by the Chikkadpally police for allegedly cheating the public while claiming to be a friend of Director General of Police M. Mahendar Reddy.

According to the police, the accused, Sheik Babu, had made acquaintances with small-scale businessmen and introduced himself as a diamond trader. 

“He offered huge returns on investments. He cheated the victim Yadagiri by offering him huge profits in a short time on Rs 6 lakh which he took in two instalments,” a police officer said. Sheik Babu gave Yadagiri a cheque for Rs 6.2 lakh which bounced.

“When Yadagiri demanded the money, Sheik Babu threatened him saying he was a friend of the DGP. Following this, Yadagiri lodged a complaint,” the officer said.
