Hyderabad: The city’s tryst with the rain is not over yet. According to officials of the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), the city will continue to witness sparse amounts of rainfall for the next 24 hours.
“There is a forecast of rainfall decreasing across the city from Friday onwards, as the upper air cyclonic circulation—that brought on the torrential rainfall over the last two days—has moved away from the city. It will gain strength over Maharashtra soon,” Dr K Nagaratna, chief of weather prediction, told Deccan Chronicle.
While that is the case, the incessant rains triggered in the city have turned it into a rainfall surplus one. “Given the heavy rainfall that took place in the city over the last two-days the city has become a rainfall surplus as high as 37% ,” she added.
As against an average of 157mm in September, the city has received a cumulative average rainfall of 215.4mm up to September 25 this month.
According to the IMD’s records, in September 2016, the city had received 439.7 mm over the course of the entire month and 231.1 mm in September 2010. However she refused to comment on the weaning away of the south west monsoon, as she claimed that this particular piece of information has to be issued by the New Delhi office of the IMD.
