Hyderabad: Upset about his wife not having a conjugal life, a cab driver from Neredmet set himself ablaze in front of his wife and in-laws and died while undergoing treatment at a hospital on Thursday.

According to the Neredmet police, the incident took place on October 21, at Moula Ali. The victim Velluri Keshav Vicent Mario, 30, has been working as a cab driver for about six years. In 2016, he fell in love with one Celina Maria George, an engineering student and married her at Arya Samaj in Moula Ali, against Celina’s parents’ wish.

As her parents did not approve of the marriage, Celina was living with her parents. Meanwhile, Vincent took a room on rent at Goutham Nagar, where Celina used to meet him for an hour every day before going home. He was repeatedly asking her to live with him, but she was reluctant.

“On October 21, when Vincent went to Safilguda to meet his wife, her father Sajupaul asked him to leave,” said the police.

Infuriated, Vincent purchased two litres of fuel and set himself ablaze in front of Celina’s house. Celina and her parents tried to douse off the fire and alerted the police.

Neredmet inspector A. Narsimha Swamy said that Vincent suffered severe burns and was admitted to a hospital, where he died while undergoing treatment on Thursday. His body has been handed over to his relatives.
