BENGALURU: A city-based couple has accused the Jayanagar police of inaction and harassment, after they were assaulted over a year ago. The woman complainant has alleged that she kept pleading the police to register a case of molestation and outraging the modesty of a woman in the case, but the Jayanagar police have allegedly not included these sections in the FIR and are trying to hush up the case.

Though the couple has written to the city police commissioner, Karnataka State Human Rights Commission and other authorities, it has failed to move the Jayanagar police to take action against the accused. The complainant's husband Ajith (name changed) told Deccan Chronicle that his wife and he have been making the rounds of Jayanagar police station for the last one year pleading the police to take action against the culprits for cheating and assaulting the couple, but to no avail.

Ajith said that he married Asha (name changed) in August 2017. The couple had a joint venture where they owned a company that dealt with tiles work. But Ajith's father-in-law misappropriated funds of the company forged the papers and took over the firm. He also assaulted the couple when they approached him.
The couple filed a complaint in September 2017 under various sections including 506, 34, 380,448 and 324 of the Indian penal Code.

"But we were shocked when we learnt that the Jayanagar police allegedly took bribes and didn't act against the accused, Kundan Mal Jain and Harshal Jain," he alleged. He said, "We knocked every possible door for justice. We made rounds to the office of Police Commissioner T. Suneel Kumar, ACP in Jayanagar sub-division and even went to KSHRC. It was only after KSHRC took up the probe and asked for clarification, we received letters and enquiries from at least five to six police stations."

He said, "But nothing seemed to be working. The accused are still at large and are continuing with their cheating. Kundan Mal and his son Harshal have taken money against our name from the market and haven't paid the vendors. When I requested the police to intervene, they only called us to the station, made us sit from morning till evening and then asked us to go." The couple also said that Kundan Mal Jain has admitted to paying bribes to the Jayanagar police to hush up the case on various occasions.
