Khammam: A Class III student was injured when his English teacher Krishna Kumari allegedly hit him with a slate for not giving the correct answer to a question at the CPS school in Wyra.

His parents, Mr Gunda Ramu and Padmaja, held a protest in front of the school to demand that teacher Krishna Kumari be punished. Asked why they were reacting two days later, Mr Ramu said, “We knew about the incident on Saturday but realised its seriousness later.” He said the school was closed for Sunday.

Mr Ramu said Charan was not keeping well previously, and had been hospitalised in the second week of June for bleeding from the nose. “He is very scared now,” Mr Ramu said. The parents demanded that the school management and the government punish the teacher. “No child should faced such punishment,” he said. “How could she hit Charan when corporal punishment is banned.”

The parents and Charan met Wyra mandal education officer Kothapalli Venkateswarlu and lodged a complaint about the incident, and sought action against the teacher and the school. Mr Venkateswarlu assured that he would inquire about the incident, submit a report to the district education officer and take action against the teacher as deemed necessary.
