Hyderabad: Prison term for drunk driving

Hyderabad: For the first time courts have awarded imprisonment for speeding. Three persons were convicted and imprisoned  for up to two days by a special Metropolitan Magistrate in Saifabad police station limits.

One of the offenders was imprisoned for two days while the other two were jailed for a day. The special drive against  speeding covered many parts of the city on Tuesday night and 237 vehicles were seized for speeding and dangerous driving.

Of them, 210 were two-wheelers, three three-wheelers, 22 four-wheelers and three other vehicles. DCP Traffic A V Ranganath said, “Of late we have been conducting special drives and apprehending drivers indulging in rash and dangerous driving and speeding.

In all such cases we file charge sheets. For drivers who regularly indulge in speeding exceeding 100 kmph speed we are now seeking imprisonment.”
