SALEM: A student preparing for NEET examination, committed suicide by covering his face with a plastic bag near here late on Tuesday night. Police said that Kevin Hari, 19, son of Lawrence, appeared for the NEET examination last year after completing Plus-2.

He had then secured 213 marks. Since he did not get a medical seat, he was now preparing for the same examination again to get medical admission in the coming academic year.

Kevin was given a separate room for his studies at his house in Sankar Nagar and spent most of his time reading. He was studying till late on Tuesday night as usual and went to bed.

In the early hours of Wednesday, Kevin’s mother Mary Rosilin went to his room at around 5.30 am and was shocked to find him dead. He had covered his faced with a plastic bag, tied it with a shoe lace and apparently died of suffocation.

Kevin’s body was sent for post-mortem and police have booked a case. Kevin was depressed for the last three months and police suspect this to be the cause for the suicide. Further investigation is on.
