Chennai: A 17-year-old boy, class 12 student, attacked his junior with a knife in public view in Kancheepuram bus stop, 70 km from the city on Tuesday evening.

The injured boy, Karthikeyan* (16) suffered injuries on his head and shoulder and is undergoing treatment at a hospital, police said.

Police said that Dileep* attacked his school junior for allegedly pestering his younger sister. Both the boys are students of St Anderson Higher Secondary School in Kancheepuram.

Police said the boys are also from the same locality- Kaliyanur village, about 7 km from the temple town. Police investigations revealed that Karthikeyan was stalking his senior’s sister, who studies in another school in Kancheepuram. Dileep had condemned Karthikeyan’s behaviour and warned him to stay away from his sister.

However, since the boy continued with his pursuit, Dileep took the matter in his own hands. On Tuesday, he had carried a kitchen knife to school by placing it inside a notebook. After school hours, the boys reached the bus stand to return to their villages when Dileep picked up an argument with Karthikeyan over the issue.

The duel escalated and taking other students and public by surprise, Dileep took the knife out and started attacking Karthikeyan. Other students dispersed from the scene and alerted the police. A police team rounded up Dileep and moved the injured Karthikeyan to the hospital. Siva Kanchi Police have detained Dileep and are investigating.

Only two weeks ago, police arrested another school student after he entered a private school near   Thirukazhukundr-am in Kancheepuram district and attacked a teacher there.
