VIJAYAWADA: AP Non-Gazetted Officers Association president Ashok Babu has been accused of tampering the educational qualifications mentioned in his service records. Mr Babu who had studied till Intermedi-ate, had allegedly tampered with the records and entered his educational qualification as BCom, but had later struck it off. There are allegations that he had submitted fake documents for his promotion while at the commercial taxes department, but had withdrawn them from the records so that they could not be used against him.

Mr Babu had joined as a junior assistant in the commercial tax department in 1977 in Krishna district. In 1994, he wanted to shift to the commercial taxes commissionerate situated at Hyderabad for which the minimum educational qualification was a graduation. He allegedly submitted a fake certificate but the proposal to move to the commissionerate was dropped because of personal issues. The changes made in the service records were restored to their original state. This issue came to light in 2013. Asked about this, Mr Babu said he hadn’t taken any promotion based on the degree. He said the office staff had by mistake added the degree along with his batchmates who were graduates. He said he had responded to the memo issued in 2013, and no decision had been taken on it.
