Hyderabad: Two construction workers died and 10 others were injured when an under-construction building of Film Nagar Cultural Centre (FNCC) collapsed at Film Nagar on Sunday morning.

The workers were laying a huge cement slab on the roof of the first floor when the front side of the building came down. The mishap was due to substandard building materials, police said.

The condition of the injured workers is stable. Other workers escaped with minor injuries as they managed to run out as the building came crashing down.

Following a complaint from the victims, Hyderabad police has booked a case against the management of FNCC for negligence under IPC Sections 304A (causing death due to negligence) and 337 (causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others).

A case has also been booked against the contractor, one Mr Konda Rao.
According to witnesses, the incident occurred at around 11 am. A crack had appeared on a pillar at the ground level hours before the mishap.

The temporary iron pillars meant to support the ongoing works were also weak, they said. “When the workers found the crack, they placed iron frames for temporary support and continued work,” a police officer from West Zone said.
