Udaipur: Spited by his wife’s decision to part ways with him and live with her lover, a man in Udaipur physically abused the couple, paraded them naked and tied them together to a tree for two days and a night.

According to reports, the incident took place at Kasotia village on Monday when a mob led by the woman’s husband Bhanwarlal Meena assaulted the couple and forced them on a ‘walk of shame’ in broad daylight as onlookers watched and recorded the incident.

Spectators posted images of the incident online, but no one came forward to the rescue of the couple.

The incident took place near a government office and a school, but teachers and health workers who witnessed the event did not lodge a police complaint.

The police have booked 30 people and 13 people including 4 women have been arrested in connection with the incident.

The woman allegedly left her husband and moved in with her lover on June 17. She was rescued by the police after the incident came to light, but her partner Laluram’s family had to pay Rs 80,000 to secure his release from the police.

The local ‘patwari’ of the village has been suspended.

An explanation has been sought from the teachers and health workers.
