Chennai: Two brothers, who were abducted from their doorstep in Muthamizh Nagar, Kallikuppam in Ambattur, by the ruse of offering them a ride to school, were briefly held for a ransom of Rs 30 lakhs  before they were dropped off near Vadakarai, a couple of hours later, on Thursday.

The kids  —  K. Vikas, (11) and Jaideep (8) - were picked up in a private car 5 minutes ahead of their routine pick-up time of 8.15 am. The kids would usually to go to school in vans hired by their family and others in the neighbourhood from Jothi Travels in Ambattur.

Within five minutes of the kids having left for school, the usual ride sporting the Jothi Travels sticker arrived, much to the shock of the boys' father Kiran.
Kiran who works in medical transcription received a ransom call.

A little later, he received another call from the abductors that they had dropped the kids in Vadakarai near Red Hills and that they were sorry about the whole episode.

Kiran, who picked up the kids, lodged a complaint with the cops who traced the mobile number used by the abductors only to learn that the number was purchased using forged documents. Police have registered a case and further investigations  are on.
