Bengaluru: Hours after double murder, police nab killer

Incident happened at Weaver's colony.

According to the police, the accused and his associates had chased the two and hacked them to death near a bar and fled.

Bengaluru: The Konankunte police on Thursday evening shot at and arrested a notorious rowdy sheeter, who had murdered two members of a rival gang at Weavers colony, within hours after the crime.

The accused, identified as Manjunath, 34,  a rowdy-sheeter in Hulimavu police station, had killed his rivals Murugan, 34 and Palani, 30 at Weavers colony on Bannerghatta Road late Wednesday, while they were returning home from a bar.

According to the police, the accused and his associates had chased the two and hacked them to death near a bar and fled. The entire incident was recorded in the CCTV camera installed near the bar.

A senior police officer said that Murugan and Palani hailed from Tamil Nadu and were staying with their families in Weavers colony. The two had formed a gang and used to carry out anti-social activities.

Manjunath who was also a rowdy sheeter wanted to dominate the area and he often used to have fights with Murugan and Palani gang. On Wednesday night, when Murugan and Palani along with their friends came out of a bar, Manjunath and his aides were lying in wait for them. They attacked them with lethal weapons, killing them on the spot.

DCP south, Annamalai had formed three special teams to nab the culprits. The team headed by the ACP T. Mahadeva received a credible information and rushed to Anjanapura forest area, where the accused Manjunath was hiding and planning to escape to Tamil Nadu.

The police surrounded him and asked him to surrender, but he attacked and injured Sub-Inspector Subramani with a dagger.

The police then opened two rounds of fire at his legs and caught him. They rushed both the injured to the nearby hospital for treatment and they are said to be out of danger.

The police have booked Majunath for double murder and have launched a manhunt for his associates.
