Kochi: The Thrikkakara police has registered a case against a 33-year old medical doctor and his woman friend for allegedly torturing the latter's 10-year-old son physically and mentally.

The accused, identified as Adarsh Radhakrishnan, chief medical officer, Ernakulam General Hospital, and his friend, who is the mother of the victim, were booked under relevant sections of PoCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) Act and JJ (Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children)) Act.

According to the police, the woman and the kid used to stay with Adarsh at his residence near Palachuvadu and the accused used to beat him up regularly. Preliminary investigations revealed that the woman, a divorcee, had been living with Adarsh for the past few years.

“The boy took shelter at his neighbour’s house on Sunday night after being assaulted continuously for two days,” said an officer with the Thrikkakara police station. The neighbour informed the Childline on Monday morning and they immediately alerted the police.

As per the statement given by the child, he was being tortured physically and mentally since September. “Several injury marks have been found on the victim’s body, especially on the palms. As per his statement, the doctor had earlier hurt his private parts after removing his dress at the swimming pool of IMA House, Kochi. The mother also used to assault him on many occasions,” said a police officer.

The police said that cases had been registered against the two accused under section 323, 324 of IPC, and relevant sections of PoCSO Act and JJ Act. No arrests were recorded.

After a medical examination, the victim was transferred to a shelter in Aluva under the guidance of Child Welfare Committee (CWC).
