Hyderabad: In a gruesome incident on the first day of Muharram in the Old City, a seven-year-old boy was allegedly killed by his uncle over a property dispute on Friday at Dabeerpura.

The victim, Mir Abbas Ali Rizvi, a second standard student, is a grandson of Mir Qamar Hassan Rizvi, who is the ‘alambardar’ (one who carriers the standards) of Bibi-ka-Alawa at Nagabowli in Dabeerpura.

According to the police, the victim, who stays at Safilguda, had come to Bibi-ka-Alawa along with his father, grandfather and other relatives to install the alam. As it was the first day of Muharram, the family came to the spot for the annual ritual.

“At around 3.30 am, Jaweed, the accused, took the boy out of the Bibi-ka-Alawa, on the pretext of buying him a juice. The man took him to a graveyard and smashed his head with a boulder and fled from the spot,” said Mohd Abdul Jaweed, Rein Bazaar inspector.

The family noticed that the boy was missing. After searching for the boy in the nearby areas, they approached the Rein Bazaar police to register a kidnapping case. Around 9 am, some persons noticed the body of a child at Nagabowli and alerted the police. The police rushed to the spot and identified the body with the help of family members. The body was later shifted to Osmania Hospital.

V. Satyanarayana, south zone DCP, said. “The son of Jaweed died in 2008 and he felt that it happened due to neglect by Mr. Qamar. Jaweed was in Saudi Arabia when his child died. There was a dispute within the family over properties located at Moula Ali and Safilguda.”

Two police teams have been formed to nab the accused, who is still at large. The burial of the boy took place at Bibi-ka-Alawa.
