Chennai: Two days after ‘Boxer’ Murali was murdered inside the Puzhal central prison, ADGP (prisons) Ashutosh Shukla issued orders suspending assistant jailer and chief warder of the prison, on Friday.

According to sources, assistant jailer Palanivel and chief warder Nagarajan were suspended. The suspension has come after Murali, detained under the Goondas Act, was allegedly murdered by fellow inmates Saranraj, Joseph, Ramesh, Karthi and Pradeepkumar on Wednesday. The murder happened when the victim was going to the toilet.

Meanwhile, sources said that there was a previous enmity between the deceased and the alleged murderers. During the internal investigation, it came to light that prison authorities could have averted the murder if they had taken precautionary measures. “The officials were suspended due to their failure in acting accordingly to intelligence inputs,” the sources said.
