ALAPPUZHA: The Cherthala police on Thursday arrested two persons in connection with the case of realtor Bindhu, 44,  who has been missing for the last two years. The  two arrested,  Govindankutty Menon, 79, Arakkalparambil house, Edapally, third accused,  and Shilji P. Kurien, Parassery house, Pallipuram, fourth accused, were remanded in judicial custody by the local court at Cherthala on Friday.

They had signed as witnesses on the documents that were forged in the name of Bindhu to strike land  deals.   The prime accused Sebastian, Pallippuram near Kadakkarapally,  and  Jaya, Kuruppamkulangara, Ermalloor,  are  absconding,  the police said. Bindhu, who was unmarried,  was staying alone at her home, Padmanivas, Alumkal junction, Kadakarapally,  after the death of her parents. She sold ancestral properties worth crores of rupees.  Her   brother P. Praveen Kumar, settled in Italy, had registered a case with Pattanakkad police in May this year about the disappearance of his sister.

Praveen collected the details of the land dealings carried out by Bindhu  at Edapally sub-registrar office, Ernakulam, in 2013. For  preparation of the  documents, a driving licence and power of attorney of Bindhu were produced in the registrar office, but all the documents were bogus. According to the police, a power of attorney was registered at the sub-registrar office, Pattanakkad,  in 2013. Jaya had signed on the papers in the name of  Bindhu.

As per the  documents seized,  property worth Rs 5 crore  was sold to a party hailing from Kollam. The police will submit an application to the  registration department to withhold the deal. The investigation team questioned Beena Kurien who was sub-registrar during the registration. She is currently Kannur sub-registrar. The missing case of Bindhu has been handed over to a new team led by Mr A. Nasim, Dy.SP,  district narcotics cell.
