THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Finally, the police claimed to have nabbed the person who had hurled a crude bomb at the CPM headquarters AKG Centre in Thiruvananthapuram in June.

The crime branch arrested Jithin who is president of a local unit of Youth Congress. The incident took place on the night of June 30. Explosives were hurled at a gate near AKG Centre's main gate. Since the SIT formed by local police could not find the culprit, the case was handed over to the crime branch in July.

The police had drawn flak and huge criticism for its failure to nab the culprit. The cops carried out an extensive probe checking hundreds of CCTV camera footage, questioning over 250 suspects and checking over 5000 phone call records.

Meanwhile, Kerala PCC president K Sudhakaran refuted the claims of the police. "It’s a fake case. Jithin was made to eat a chocolate-like product which was suspected to be laced with some drug" he alleged.

Sudhkaran said the arrest was aimed at diverting the attention from the Bharat Jodo Uatra of Rahul Gandhi which was receiving huge support across Kerala.
