Five held for attempt to transport ganja from Visakhapatnam

Police officials seized 60 kg of ganja from their possession, said to be worth Rs. 1.5 lakh.

In another case the Railway Police found three bags of ganja, weighing about 30 kg, on the Konark Express.

Hyderabad: Railway Police on Friday arrested five persons, including a student, on charges of attempting to transport ganja from Visakhapatnam to Delhi via Secunderabad. 

Police officials seized 60 kg of ganja from their possession, said to be worth Rs. 1.5 lakh. 

The arrested are Vikas, 28, and Ratandeep, 32, of Delhi, Pradeep, 30, of Haryana, Pappu Chowrasia, 24, of Uttar Pradesh, and Azhar Khan, 26, a BA student in Delhi. 

“We nabbed them on Platform 2 and 3, near the foot over bridge,” said Railway Police SP S. Rajendra Prasad. “They were trying to transport the ganja on the Godavari Express.”  The five have been sent to judicial remand.  

In another case, Railway Police had on Thursday found three bags of ganja, weighing about 30 kg, on the Konark Express. “We could not trace the owner of the bags,” police said. Vikarabad police are investigating.
