Bengaluru: A man posing as a cop diverted the attention of a woman and escaped with her gold chain early on Monday morning in Chandra Layout police limits.

The victim, Parimala, a resident of Maruthinagar, had gone for her morning walk around 6 am when a man approached her and introduced himself as a policeman. He told her that they were hunting for a chain-snatcher who had struck in her neighbourhood, and that she should keep her jewels safe.

On the pretext of showing her how to hide her jewellery from the chain-snatchers, he snatched the chain and escaped with his accomplice who was waiting nearby on a two-wheeler. The victim raised an alarm but before the passerby rushed for her help, the two escaped.

She rushed to the Chandra Layout police station and filed a complaint. The police are examining the CCTV footage to identify the culprits.
