HYDERABAD: A girl student of the Telangana Minority Residential School lodged a complaint with the Alair police, alleging sexual harassment on the school premises.

The incident came to light when Syed Shahezadi, in-charge chairperson of National Minority Commission, visited the school and interacted with girl students who gave an open letter about sexual harassment in the school. The commission is drafting a committee to verify the allegation.

Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, Shahezadi said a student complained about sexual harassment on the school premises and mentioned some names. "We are verifying the claims and the principal has complained to the local police as well. If proven right, this is a very serious issue and action will be taken accordingly. However, if proven false, the issue will still be dealt with seriously as it dents the image of the school. Two investigations are being done simultaneously," she said.

The Alair police confirmed that they received a complaint. "The complaint is against Haneef, the husband of a worker at the school. We started an investigation," said Md. Idris Ali, Alair inspector.
