Karnataka: Karopadi gram panchayat vice president hacked to death

The reason behind the attack is not yet known but personal enmity is suspected to be the reason.

Mangaluru: Karopadi gram panchayat vice president Jaleel Karopadi was hacked to death in broad daylight by four masked men, at Karpodi of Bantwal taluk in Dakshina Kannada district on Thursday.

According to police, the assailants came to the gram panchayat office on two bikes at about 11.30 am, they barged into Jaleel's chamber and attacked him with lethal weapons.

Injured Jaleel was taken to a hospital at Natekal where he succumbed to injuries. Senior police officials including Inspector- General of Police (Western Range) P. Harishekaran and Superintendent of Police Bhushan G Borase visited the crime scene for investigation.

The reason behind the attack is not yet known but personal enmity is suspected to be the reason.

Jaleel is the son of taluk panchayat member Usman Karopadi. Jaleel had served as the office bearer of Youth Congress and was an active member of Congress party.
